Description
- Matcha is a powdered green tea imported from Japan. While other green teas can grow in any region of the world, matcha is native to Japan. Matcha, the heart of Japanese tea culture, has been used in traditional Japanese tea ceremonies for hundreds of years. Famous for its many effects on health, matcha is rich in nutritional values, antioxidants, fiber and chlorophyll. The health benefits of matcha are much greater than other green teas because with matcha, we digest the entire tea leaf, not just the brewed water. One glass of matcha is equivalent to 10 glasses of green tea in terms of nutritional value and antioxidant content. Matcha, also known as a mind-soothing, contains L-theanine, an amino acid. Therefore, matcha is also a mood enhancer. Because matcha’s amino acid is combined with caffeine, it is consumed by Buddhist monks to aid meditation. The substance that gives Matcha its distinctive taste is the amino acids it contains. Its distinctive flavor, known as the fifth taste or umami, characterized by a rich creamy mouthfeel, is due to amino acids and chlorophyll. Prepared by whipping with the traditional Japanese method, matcha is a full-bodied green tea.
